Abstract
We have developed an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the detection of the HIV-1 antibody using recombinant gp41 and gag3. The results of ELISA using recombinant protein (RPC) as antigen correlated well with the results obtained from wholecell viral (VL0 protein, as well as with the results of immunoblotting. The rsults of the study therefore indicate that the sepecificity of the RCP is higher than that of VL in ELISA. More over, though the sensitivities of the antigens appear to be equivalent, the experimental results indicate that the RCP could be used in place of , or to confirm, a VL enzyme immunoassay screening test.
